PROGRAM NOTES

The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos (sometimes “klonos”) and kairos.  While chronos refers to chronological, progressive time, kairos refers to a supreme moment: a moment that is right or opportune.

It has enjoyed varied use throughout history, having theological significance--especially within the rise of Christianity.  The ancient Greek god Kairos was the god of the fleeting moment, of opportunities.

Kairos was composed for Virginia Hudson and Brian John.
